Installation Project: Smart Electronically Controlled Manhole Covers Installation Case Study

The smart manhole cover is powered by a lithium battery and features wireless remote transmission. It can be unlocked via Bluetooth on the unit itself or through remote authorization. It uses an electronic clutch mechanism: without authorization, the lock rotates freely 360° to prevent forced entry; once authorized, the clutch engages, and the cover can be unlocked by turning the handle. The lock features a three-bolt locking mechanism to prevent the manhole cover from being pried open by force.
The software platform employs a B/S architecture and integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technology with financial-grade data encryption. It collects real-time data on manhole cover opening/closing, tilt, battery level, and heartbeat status; triggers automatic low-battery alerts and unauthorized opening alerts; and logs cover opening events. The system uses a work order authorization model, ensuring that authorized manhole covers can only be opened at authorized times using authorized keys. It also includes an emergency key to address emergency unlocking needs when both the manhole cover and the key run out of power.
